MERLOT, THE GRAPE NAMED AFTER BLACKBIRDS.

Pine Grove is made from Merlot, one of the most loved grapes in the world, second only to Cabernet Sauvignon. It is native to Bordeaux where it is often blended with more structured grapes, offering a soft temperament and classic juicy plum note. Merlot was named after the French word “merle” which means blackbird. Anyone who grows Merlot knows that blackbirds love to eat the ripe grapes right off the vine during harvest. They can always be found in the vineyard trying to sneak a taste.

Pine Grove is smooth, medium-bodied, and dry with flavors of red plum, raspberry, new leather, and violets.

PICTURE THIS: YOU’RE AT A VINEYARD IN THE BALKANS.

The vineyards of North Macedonia are breathtaking. Here the Vardar river runs from the north of the country to its southern border with Greece. A backdrop of snowcapped mountains, crystal blue skies, and an unrelenting sun create the ideal climate for Merlot to make unctuous, fruit-driven wines. Bald eagles circle in and out as they search for prey in the gorges of the rolling mountains. Pine Grove is an expressive wine, meant to capture this beauty in its texture, aromas, and flavors.

YOUR MERLOT PAIRING SUGGESTIONS.

When it comes to Merlot, dark meats and grilled dishes with smokey flavors are always a winner. Try roasted duck, braised chicken, mushroom ravioli, or chorizo.
